Biometric access control is often considered a solution for granting access to high value/sensitive areas, rather than an everyday means for granting access to designated areas. However, Bill Carmichael of Grand Oaks recognized the benefits of a better identification system than keys or cards that residents could not lose or share and sought a product that offered:

  • better security than the existing system;
  • lower cost to operate;
  • durable with the ability to perform in a harsh environment; and
  • easy to manage from administration standpoint for the community pool and fitness center.

In November 2005, Grand Oaks installed the Integrated Biometrics TRU650 solution. This unique biometrics system is the ideal solution for Grand Oaks as it offers better security through the elimination of lost, shared or stolen cards while making it less expensive to operate as resources are not required to administer keys or cards. Plus, the TRU650 performs well in direct sunlight and outdoor environments, making it more durable than other solutions on the market. Grand Oaks also took advantage of the maintenance agreement offered by Integrated Biometrics.

According to Carmichael, they chose Integrated Biometrics because of the price point and the reliability of the product but have received much more.

“The system and the technical support provided by Integrated Biometrics have surpassed my expectations,” Carmichael said. “The TRU-650 is a cost-effective solution to controlled access and it has protected my property from unauthorized use. In fact, it is such an impressive product that it has actually helped in selling and leasing homes. I also like that it has set us apart from our competition. I have used all kinds of access control systems, including biometrics, and nothing comes close to yours.”
